The Gold Standard in Food Preservation
From tomato paste to infant formula. We engineer FDA-compliant Tinplate and Aluminum cans that withstand 121°C retort sterilization and guarantee 24-month shelf life.

The internal coating is the only thing standing between your food and the metal. We customize lacquers based on acidity and protein content.
High Acid Foods (pH < 4.5)
Tomatoes, Fruits, Pickles.
Solution: Double-coat Epoxy Phenolic. Acid attacks tin rapidly. Our gold lacquer provides a heavy-duty barrier to prevent “hydrogen swelling” and metal dissolution.
High Sulfur
Fish, Corn, Meats.
Solution: Sulfur-resistant Gold Lacquer with Zinc Oxide (ZnO) paste to absorb sulfide ions and prevent black staining.
Dry Powders
Infant Formula, Coffee.
Solution: BPA-Ni (Non-Intent) White Polyester. Meets the strictest EU migration limits for infant safety.
Low Acid
Vegetables, Soups.
Solution: Standard Organosol or Epoxy. Optimized for adhesion and flexibility during beading.
The Engineering of Shelf Life
Canning is not just packaging; it is a preservation technology. The metal can acts as a miniature pressure cooker during sterilization and a hermetic vault during storage. At Golden Soar, we control every variable of the can manufacturing process to ensure zero spoilage.
1. Retort Process Compatibility
The most critical phase in canning is the Retort Process. Filled cans are subjected to high-pressure steam at 121°C (250°F) for 60-90 minutes to kill Clostridium botulinum spores. During this phase, the internal pressure of the can spikes.
The Panelling Risk: If the can body is too thin (soft temper), the external steam pressure can crush the can (“panelling”). Alternatively, during cooling, the internal vacuum can cause the walls to collapse. We solve this by:
- Beading: Rolling concentric ribs into the can body to increase radial crush strength.
- Temper Selection: Using Double Reduced (DR8/DR9) steel for bodies, which is stiffer and stronger than standard steel, allowing for thinner gauges without structural failure.
2. Seaming Integrity: The Double Seam
The hermetic seal of a can relies on the Double Seam—the mechanical interlocking of the can body flange and the lid curl. This is a precision operation performed at speeds of 600 cans/minute.
Our quality control monitors critical seam parameters in real-time:
- Body Hook & Cover Hook: Must overlap by at least 1.1mm.
- Tightness rating: > 90% (Wrinkle-free).
- Seam Thickness: Micrometer verified to ensure the sealing compound is properly compressed.
A failed seam leads to “leakers” and potential botulism risk. We provide seam setup data sheets for your filling line technicians to ensure the closing machine matches our can specs perfectly.
3. Material Science: Tinplate vs. TFS
We offer two primary steel substrates. Visit our Materials Hub for chemical details, but here is the application guide:
- ETP (Electrolytic Tinplate): Steel coated with tin. The shiny, solderable standard. Tin offers some electrochemical protection. Best for acidic fruits (plain cans) where tin acts as a sacrificial anode to protect flavor.
- TFS (Tin-Free Steel / ECCS): Steel coated with chrome/chrome oxide. It has excellent lacquer adhesion and is cheaper than tinplate. However, it cannot be soldered (must be welded) and is less resistant to strong acids. Ideal for fish, meats, and industrial dry goods.
4. Food Safety Compliance
All our food cans are manufactured in HACCP-compliant facilities. We strictly adhere to:
- FDA 21 CFR 175.300: Regulations for resinous and polymeric coatings for food contact surfaces.
- EU Regulation 1935/2004: Framework for food contact materials.
- BPA-Ni (Bisphenol-A Non-Intent): We have transitioned 90% of our production to BPA-Ni coatings to meet consumer demand and EU regulations, specifically for infant and maternal products.
